The Pfedelbach/Hohenlohe-based SCHEUERLE Fahrzeugfabrik recently delivered 24 axle lines of SPMT (Self-Propelled Modular Transporter) to Australia. The self-propelled platform vehicles will operate in the ASC shipyard for transporting large ship sections. The SCHEUERLE SPMT is a flexible all-rounder: SCHEUERLE SPMTs stand for a very high level of flexibility, extreme load capacity and reliability. World-wide, in the meantime, around 6,000 axle lines of SCHEUERLE SPMTs provide heavy-load specialists, plant constructors as well as shipyard and offshore industries with the optimal transportation solutions. Numerous reasons, therefore, for using SCHEUERLE SPMTs, also for the ASC shipyard.

ASC is the largest military shipyard in Australia. At the Adelaide facility in southern Australia, three ultra-modern military ships are to be built for the Royal Australian Navy. Each of the ships consists of 27 individual ship sections, so-called blocks. On average, the dimensions of these blocks are in the region of 15 m long x 15 m wide x 12 m high and weigh 300 tons, and are manufactured at different production plants and then delivered to ASC in Adelaide by barge or ship. On arrival, the 24 SPMT axle lines - flexibly coupled in an open compound depending on block size and weight - are standing ready to move the heavy loads safely to their destination.

By means of the corresponding SPMT combinations, the individual sections are positioned with millimetre precision and subsequently joined together. For the required drive of the SCHEUERLE SPMTs, 1 or 2 SCHEUERLE Power Pack Units (PPUs) - depending on the size of the transport combination – provide 476 horsepower in each case.
