[Antenna Transporter
Antenna Transporter climbing the Andes in Chile.
20 metres long, 10 metres wide, 6 metres high, with a weight of 130 tonnes, these are the dimensions of this enormous super truck.
Special vehicles for safe transport and positioning of radio telescopic antennas of the European Space Organisation in the Chilean Atacama desert. Here, 115-t extremely sensitive antennas are transported under extremely difficult conditions.
The transporters move along a 30 km long, specially built dirt road in heights up to 5000 m with an incline up to 10%. During this challenging way, modern drive technology nearly reaches the limit having to face the massive lack of oxygen in this altitude.
- Despite the huge dimensions, this vehicle can still be moved by only one person.
- Millimetre precision in positioning thanks to hydrostatic traction drive
- Electronic-hydraulic multi-wheel steering system
